Course Description Welcome to U.S. History! Understanding United States history is essential for the continuation of our democratic society. This course will help you make connections between your world and the rich heritage of United States history. The course is designed as a survey of American history with an emphasis on post-Reconstruction America (1876- Present), but will include a review of the earlier period.
Goals All students are capable of learning. In this class we will focus on:
· A knowledge base – historical content · The skills necessary to analyze and apply that knowledge base-critical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Expectations The following apply to every student:

Assignments and Evaluation All assignments are given with the specific purpose of preparing you to learn specific material/skills or to reinforce material/skills learned in class. I don’t believe in busy work, therefore, I will not assign it. Completion of ALL assignments/activities will ensure you do well on evaluations of learning.
All evaluations are intended to measure how well you have developed a particular skill or acquired the requisite content knowledge. Quizzes should give you a good indication of how prepared you are of upcoming unit tests and final term tests.
