Course Description Welcome to Government and Citizenship! Whether you know it or not, this class is one of the most important you will take in your high school career, as the things you learn will be applicable throughout the rest of your life as a citizen of the United States of America.
Goals All students are capable of learning. In this class we will focus on:
· A knowledge base · The skills necessary to analyze and apply that knowledge base-critical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Expectations The following apply to every student:
1. Come to class prepared to learn. 2. Be considerate at all times. 3. Do not disrupt the class in any way. 4. Do not sleep in class. 5. No cell phones, IPods, etc.
Cell Phones and iPods/(ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE) IT IS NOT OK TO HAVE YOUR CELL PHONE OR IPOD ON DURING CLASS. MAKE SURE TO PUT THEM AWAY BEFORE ENTERING THE ROOM. CONSIDER THIS YOUR ONLY WARNING. THE FIRST TIME THEY ARE SEEN THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED AND YOU MAY ONLY PICK THEM UP WITH A PARENT AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!!
Assignments and Evaluation All assignments are given with the specific purpose of preparing you to learn specific material/skills or to reinforce material/skills learned in class. I don’t believe in busy work, therefore, I will not assign it. Completion of ALL assignments/activities will ensure you do well on evaluations of learning.
All evaluations are intended to measure how well you have developed a particular skill or acquired the requisite content knowledge. Quizzes should give you a good indication of how prepared you are of upcoming unit tests and final term tests.
Materials Bring the following items to class each day:
· Pen or pencil · Notebook (3-ring binder) · Journal
Open Door I have an open door policy, meaning you may come at any time before or after school to discuss your grades or ways to improve your learning in the classroom. I arrive at school at 7:15 am and stay until 3:00 pm every day. Please come talk to me if you have questions or concerns. If you cannot meet before or after school during those times, please schedule an appointment with me. The best way to contact me is through my school email.
